Alright, let's dive into this week's episode. Walking to school with my youngest son. I had this kind of clarity around three C's that we really need as entrepreneurs and I wanna share them with you. And I would love to hear, do you think there are more C's? Would you agree with this? Uh, what else do we need?
So the three Cs are, number one, a calm nervous system. A calm nervous system is so essential because. Otherwise we're in that kind of fight or [00:03:00] flight. We're in high stress. Uh, we need that calm system to be able to support us, to make decisions, uh, to do things that feel tough. Having calm nervous system allows our body to rest.
To recover and to function optimally, and it's a key piece to reducing our stress. The second C is capacity. We need extra capacity. As entrepreneurs, we need extra mental capacity. We need extra energetic capacity. We need extra emotional capacity. Because we are going be above and beyond on a daily basis.
And the third C is clarity. Having a clear mind, we need to have clarity on our direction, purpose, mission. We need to be able to think clearly. We need to be able to have our minds clear enough in our work time that we can make quick decisions. We need to create space for [00:04:00] thinking and. Being able to get ourselves clear, we need to be able to give clear direction.
And that comes from our own clarity. We all know that an overwhelmed mind has us stuck. So when we can create that clarity and clear direction within ourselves, then we know what to do next and it reduces that overwhelm and it reduces that stuckness. So I would love to hear from you. Do you agree? And are there some more Cs that you would add that are essential for us to be not just.
Functioning at our best and making our biggest impact and creating the most success, but also feeling good. So let's circle back to each of these and talk about some simple but profound ways that you can grow and nurture each of the, these three Cs, your calm, your capacity, and your clarity. So starting off with a calm, nervous system specifically because when our nervous system is [00:05:00] calm.
We can respond instead of react, and that is really what we need to be able to do. When you see people that seem to be steady and happy and don't seem to be bothered by big things, you can assume that they aren't having challenging things going on in their life, or maybe they just are built differently to you, but more likely they.
Have a calm nervous system and they have built their capacity to be able to deal with, uh, difficult things and they have clarity as well. So this is where these three Cs come in. So ways that we can support a calm nervous system. There are bigger ways, but let's just have a look at a few really simple ones you can even do just on a daily basis to calm your nervous system.
If this is a big area for you and you know that you are functioning in a heightened nervous system state, [00:06:00] then I would recommend getting support for that and looking at ways that you can support yourself in bigger ways than what I'm going to suggest here. It's so, so important, and as someone who has previously functioned with a very out of whack and heightened nervous system, to now moving myself into having a calm, nervous system, the difference is astronomical.
So I highly recommend. Focusing on this and supporting yourself to create that calm nervous system. We can do this in simple ways, like in micro moments, just pausing and taking some deep breaths in between. Client calls or meetings before you open your laptop in the morning, before you get out of bed in the morning between dropping the kids to school or kindy and starting [00:07:00] work between phone calls.
Breathing deeply calms your nervous system. It brings your focus back into your body, out of your head, and it calms you down and brings you stillness. So using, using that breath even in a very simple way, like taking three deep belly breaths is going to help to calm down your nervous system. In that smaller kind of way that you can use throughout your days.
A way to calm your nervous system as well is to set tech boundaries, set work time boundaries with access to technology, with being able to be dinged at all times of day and night and weekends and work days and all of the things. It's up to us to set those tech boundaries and those work boundaries.
That are going to allow us to have a calm nervous system, to not be reactive, to be able to respond, to allow ourselves to [00:08:00] disconnect, unwind, all of those different things. So disconnecting and having boundaries around, checking your emails, checking your social media. You know how late you're on devices in the evening and et cetera, so that you're not spiking stress levels, but allowing those recovery times and those calm times.
It's looking at things that you can do to nurture yourself on a daily basis, whether that is meditation, taking a bath, going for a walk, not plugged into anything. Taking those moments of stillness and quiet where you're not being bombarded from outside. Nature is so powerful in calming your nervous system.
So even just taking a small walk or going out and sitting in the sun for a little bit, putting your feet in the grass, getting some fresh air, noticing the clouds in the sky. These can be mini resets to help to regulate your system. But again, if you have been functioning in a [00:09:00] really heightened nervous system, then we need to go a lot deeper than this and look at getting.
More support, but you could go research this and look at some ways that you feel would be a match for you to calm your nervous system. Let's talk about capacity. Capacity we're speaking of is, as I said, across our energy, our emotional capacity, our mental capacity, our our physical capacity, which therefore also is our energetic capacity.
And a really great way to support your capacity is to move your body. Move your body on a daily basis because it is going to help your mental clarity. Clarity is next. It's another C, but it's gonna help your capacity through improving your energy, your mental state, your emotional state, your physical state, of course.
So movement is such. [00:10:00] Medicine, it's going to grow your capacity and help to maintain your capacity. Having little energy check-ins as well, you can ask yourself, and again, this comes back a little bit to boundaries. We're talking about some tech boundaries, but check in with yourself. Do you have boundaries that support your current capacity while you build it?
Or are you constantly saying yes to things that are actually outside your capacity and outside boundaries that you need to have to be able to function in a healthy way? So you can ask yourself, do I have the energy for this? I. Is that saying yes going to mean no to something else that's actually important to you.
You need to protect your capacity like a boss. Okay? So boundaries are really important with supporting your capacity. Uh. As while we're growing that capacity, practicing doing things that feel uncomfortable and hard [00:11:00] outside of your business, helps you grow your capacity to deal with things that are uncomfortable and hard inside of your business.
It's like building a. Muscle so you can practice doing those things to help you have the capacity to grow. Because if you wanna grow your business, you are going to have to grow your comfort levels and your capacity for doing hard things and feeling that discomfort. We also can look at things that are gonna help us feel, again, it's coming.
They all kind of interconnect. I'm gonna say calm, but mindfulness practices meditation. Being able to be aware of our emotions and regulate our emotions. Also building strong connections and doing things that bring us joy. So that we feel filled up and fueled in ourselves and have that overflow and capacity for our business and for our family.[00:12:00]
Prioritizing sleep, eating well. Getting support, all of those things. Ways to increase your capacity across your mental, emotional, and energetic capacity is really, really essential. And again, this is gonna be personal. Depending on where you are at with your capacity, you might wanna do a little bit of an audit and see.
Where's your capacity at energetically, physically, mentally, or emotionally? And maybe focus on one of those areas and look into how you can support yourself specifically from where you are at with that capacity. Let's move into clarity. Really, this starts with clarity around your purpose and your goals and your vision, your big vision, even beyond your goals.
That's really where clarity starts from. When you're feeling a lack of clarity in your day to day and you're not sure what to focus on, it oftentimes is a vision [00:13:00] and. Goal problem, where you need to really look back at those big picture things so that you can work backwards to figure out what the plan is.
And from that plan, know what to focus on in the now day to day, week to week, month to month. So you've got clarity around where to have your energy and focus flow on that daily basis. So a few small but powerful daily things you can do to help with your clarity is each morning choose one to three things that are the most important and that are linked with your current goals.
So they're not just the most important because there's something that needs to be done that day because it's due for someone else or whatever it might be. These are things that are linked to your goals. One to three important things that when you do them, they will move you towards your goals and [00:14:00] schedule them in.
Everything else then becomes a bonus, and you wanna make sure that you do at least one of these things. That's how you move forward towards those goals. It reduces that. Frustration with yourself, it really reduces down the mental load and it gives you a sense of accomplishment each day. And when that thing, I can tell you what stays on your to-do list every single day, and it's a high priority for you.
You're gonna get it done eventually 'cause it's super annoying that you're writing it back down the next day. So that's really powerful. Doing things like having A-C-A-C-E-O-C-E-O hour or half day or day every week set aside to. Look at that big picture to focus in on your vision and your goals, to realign your priorities, to spend time, more time on [00:15:00] a big picture, high important task that is going to move you forward, that needle moving tasks each week.
That is your job as the CEO. You need to do those things, not just what needs to be done on a daily, weekly basis. And then we can have more clarity when we declutter the amount of things we need to make decisions about, and also when we learn to make decisions faster so we can simplify things. You know, some people like to simplify.
What they're gonna wear. So they're not having to choose that, or they just know what they eat for breakfast every day or on particular days of the week so that they're not having to decide, like removing some of the decisions can be helpful, but also learning to make decisions more quickly. We, and this is something I'm always working on because I am such a big thinker and you could call me an overthinker and I have to catch myself.
I need to. [00:16:00] Continually remind myself to make decisions more quickly. Sure. Not always rush into things. Take the time you need to make a a true decision feel into your body, how you make decisions best. I'm not saying rush your decisions necessarily, but it's very common to sit in indecision and that just really slows you down.
Your clarity is going to come from taking action. So big picture. Get into action and you will find your clarity. It's not going to come from waiting, from thinking about it, from sitting in that indecision. More clarity will come from taking action. So get clear on those big, that big picture, that vision, those goals.
Make sure you have a plan and that will create that daily clarity. All right. I hope this has been helpful for you. I'd love to hear which of these three Cs you feel [00:17:00] like you need to maybe focus on some more or maybe all of them in some way. I'd love to know if this episode has been helpful for you and yeah, I'd love to hear if you can think of other Cs.
I'm sure there are definitely other areas and words, but it just came to me, this idea of these three Cs that are so essential to us. To every human, but especially as entrepreneurs, as leaders. So I'd love to hear any takeaways. I'd love to hear as I said, which one you are going to focus on, and if you've got ideas to add to these Cs.
All right. Look forward to sharing more with you next week. And until then, have a beautiful day and keep on aligning your business, aligning yourself, aligning your life, and thriving.
