[00:00:00] Episode 14. Welcome to the Aligned and Thriving podcast for ambitious female entrepreneurs where we align systems, strategies, and self for sustainable success. Hello, my name is Jada. Let's get into this week's episode. Planned out is not enough. Knowing how to do it is not enough. Even created is not enough.
What am I talking about? It's really only done and doing that is enough. Doesn't have to be done perfectly. You don't have to be doing it to the full potential and possibility, but it is the doing and the done that moves you forward. I was having a conversation with my eldest son. He's 17 the other day.
And he [00:01:00] was telling me it was evening and he was telling me he, he had a English assignment due that night and it was a Monday night, I think, and we were having this whole conversation. I'm like, well, you had a lot of time on the weekend. You know, what were you doing? You told us you didn't have that much schoolwork to do.
What's happening? How, you know? What do you need to be doing to be planning out your time? All of the things. He's in year 12, and he was, his response was, well, I had it planned out. I'm like, that's great. You had it planned out, but you hadn't done it. And so the plan. As much as that is fantastic to have a plan and that you've thought about it and and made a plan for the overall, you hadn't actually done the thing.
And so now here you are cramming on the last night to get [00:02:00] it done and so often these kinds of things remind me of business. My own journey, things that are happening for me inside my head or inside my business. Things that I see through conversations with other women in business with my clients, and the parallels of these kinds of conversations for us as business owners.
And so many times, you know, I see so many women who have even fully built out a course that they wanna put out there, but they haven't. Opened the doors, or they have this big idea for something, but they haven't taken action steps to put it out there or get feedback about it or have a go, or they're planning out their next move or next idea, or they have [00:03:00] half done a course or they have half.
Done the steps of a launch, but not fully. And then they're wondering why the outcomes aren't there. So many times we can be planning something, thinking about something we can even know how to do it. And this is another conversation that happens all the time in our house. I don't know if you can relate.
Probably you can. We have a roster for our kids. We've got three kids about who does the dishwasher each morning, who does the compost, who feeds the dog, some of these basic chores in the house, and they're all involved in them, and they have particular days that they do them. And it's always the same. And guess what we still talk about each day?
Guess what we still have to ask them every day just about is it's your day to do the dishwasher. And they go, I know. And we're like, that's great that you [00:04:00] know, but you haven't actually done it. And this is a super basic example, but how many things do you know but that you don't do? And. This became so clear as a concept, uh, as I was moving through some learnings from Bob Proctor and he calls it the Knowing Doing Gap, and we now refer to it a lot in our household, but it has served me so well in business and I wanna share it with you and talk about how it affects us and really.
Recently, I've been thinking a lot on how the more we know either there is a tendency or it is possible to almost have more of a gap between what we know and what we're doing. Sometimes knowing less allows us to almost do more because we're naive or don't, you [00:05:00] know, don't fully understand all of the things, so we just give it a go.
My mentor Tracy will often say, D Lulu is the sa. Lulu d. Lulu is the solution. Be a bit delusional and just do the thing. Sometimes the more we know. The kind of bigger the gap can grow between what we're and we know and what we are doing. Because almost knowing so much can be paralyzing. And I know that's been a thing for me with so much background in business and so much knowledge around strategies and structures and setups and running a bigger style business and et cetera.
Coming back to restarting a new business and being at the beginning of a business again, it's almost like I have so many options and I know so many different ways of going about things and so many different things I could be doing. It can be paralyzing, and so then that gap grows between what I know and what I can be doing.
So I have to be very intentional about closing [00:06:00] that gap. But let me circle back. So this concept, uh, or the way that it was put of the knowing doing gap that I learned through teachings from Bob Proctor is so helpful and I wanna share it with you. Maybe you can already think of some things that you know but you don't do.
And it can be the simple things, right? We know that eating in this particular way. Is going to be good for us, but are we doing it? We know that moving our body every day is going to help us and support us in our goals and in our current state and all of the things. But are we doing it? We know that if we have more conversations with more people, we will create more sales.
Are we doing it? We know that if we put the thing out there, we are more likely to have quicker success than if we hold onto [00:07:00] it and get everything right. But are we doing it? It could be anything. You know, that time blocking would help you be more productive. But you're not doing it. You know that learning about copywriting would help you grow your business, but are you doing it?
You know that being around and immersing yourself in a group of people who are like-minded going after big goals will help you, but you're not going out. And connecting with those people, you know that getting on camera and showing up live and sharing your story or making those talking reels instead of just hiding behind the B roll will connect you more with your audience.
But you're not doing it. You know that emailing your list regularly is how you're going [00:08:00] to create connection, which will lead to more sales, but maybe you're not doing it. You know that putting out that course imperfectly is going to grow your business more than making it perfect before you put it out.
Or hopefully, you know that. But you're not doing it. Of course. There's always things that are causing the not doing. And we need to find those and eliminate them and get into the doing because growth happens through action. Anything that you know, you quote unquote should or could be doing to move you towards the kind of business and life and self that you desire that you're not doing goes on that knowing, doing gap list.
And then we start working through it. So it's a really good idea to have a think about things that might [00:09:00] be knowing in that knowing, doing Gap for you, and to keep it in mind when you can check in with yourself. What do you know? Would be moving you towards the goals that you have, but you're not doing, and then which of those things are going to have the biggest impact and move the needle in the biggest way?
What are your knowing doing gaps? You can do this in multiple areas in your life. You can do it through, you know, your sales, through your business, through. Your health, through your relationships, through your personal life, how you're moving through the days, what are the things that you know you could be doing, but there's a gap between what you're actually doing.
So this is a really good exercise to sit down and go through that, make a list of the things that you know. [00:10:00] Are a match for, you can do it. You can break it down. Like you could do this for yourself. You could do this for your life. You could do this for relationships. You could do this for your health. You could do this for your business, but let's talk business.
Right? What are some things in your business that you know would be helpful for you to be doing, but you're not doing them? Something is holding you back. Sure, we might have to work through that, but what are some knowing, doing gaps for you in your business? And I would suggest doing that in yourself because you know, we are the biggest asset in our business.
We are our biggest block in our business. So what are some knowing, doing gap. For you in the way you go about your days, the way you look after yourself as far as knowing what is a match or what would be supporting you moving towards the life self business that you desire and. Where's that gap and what could [00:11:00] you start doing to close the Knowing, doing Gap?
Because as we close that gap in each area, that we create momentum and we live in an aligned way with the way that we're wanting to be living the business, that we are desiring all of those things in your business, make a list of some of the key things that you already know you already know. You don't need somebody else to tell you.
Or if you do need support with somebody from somebody to help you know what to be doing next, what's the next best move in your business? Maybe you do need support. Maybe that is, it is a real gap that you can't close by yourself, so what do you need to do? Get support for that. That's where mentors and coaches come in.
They can support you. It's what I do with my holistic mentoring clients is support them in getting really clear on that big vision and getting clarity on [00:12:00] where they're at, and helping them to understand and know and feel confident in, and have clarity around what are the next best moves to make, to close the gap between where they are and where they want to be.
And in a holistic way, which is gonna involve them and their life and their business so that we can align the business moves with the self and the life that they desire. So maybe a gap is actually not knowing for you. However, I am sure that you know some areas or things in your business. You know you could or should be doing and you're just not doing them.
And then from that list, work out which ones are the big needle movers and start doing. Taking action on those things and closing that Knowing, doing Gap. I just loved the way this kind of concept around the Knowing Doing Gap. It comes up a lot with our [00:13:00] kids. I use it a lot with myself, and it's always worth a bit of a check-in on the varying areas in our life, and it is how we progress ourselves.
We close the gap between what we know. And what we're actually doing, because if you're not already where you wanna be in any area of your life or business, it's because there is, is that gap. Sometimes you need help to close it and sometimes it's just about doing something to close the gap. So take a little bit of time, grab out your journal, have do this exercise.
In your business and it on yourself at least, but you can do it in any area of your life as well, and look at the things you know would be helping you or get some help to understand and learn what is going to be most helpful for you. And then start doing the things that are going to close that knowing, doing gap, so that you're moving [00:14:00] out of having a plan but not taking the action so that you're moving out of creating something but not putting it out there.
So you're moving out of knowing how to do something but not actually doing the things. And again, we can't do this everywhere all at once, but choose the areas that are gonna make the most significant difference for you, and this is as much a reminder. Or, well, it's a reminder for me just as much as it is sharing the concept with you, or maybe it's a reminder for you if you already know about this concept, if it's a new concept for you, oh my gosh, it's a powerful one.
So please have a think about it and really keep it in mind as you move through your days and you move through your business and each day, how can I close the Knowing Doing Gap? I'd love to hear from you. What is something. In your business or in yourself that you know and that you haven't been [00:15:00] doing and that you are going to make a move on so that you can close that knowing, doing Gap.
Reach out and let me know for a little bit of accountability, and if you're not sure about what. You should know about what, what you need to be knowing about what moves you should be making next in your business if it's overwhelming. If you need help with getting that really clear vision around your business to match the ideal life that you desire, I.
And therefore where you're at now and which moves to make next so that you're actually moving towards that and designing and structuring your business in a way so that it is aligned and you are moving and closing that gap between where you are and where you want to be. This is what I help my holistic business mentoring clients with.
So if you want support with this, reach out and let's have a chat. But otherwise, keep this concept of the knowing, doing gap in mind, but don't just keep it in mind. [00:16:00] Take some action to close that gap. All right, beautiful. Thank you so much for joining me on this week's episode, and I look forward to sharing more with you next week.
